World Physiotherapy has recently announced that World Physiotherapy Congress 2021 will be held online. So instead of travelling to Dubai, UAE on 8 – 10 April you can now attend from home by simply typing congress.physio/2021 into your browser.

Glenn Ruscoe, Managing Director of Phys Biz Pty Ltd, the Registry Operator for the .physio Top level Domain said, “As the Internet becomes increasingly important for safe (online) gatherings, we are delighted to have the international peak body for the profession using a .physio domain name. ‘Congress’ is a strong brand already and by combining it with the profession’s own domain extension a new more powerful digital brand is created”.

The uncertainty created by the global COVID-19 pandemic has caused the World Physiotherapy board to make the momentous decision to move congress online for 2021. Whilst highly disruptive to the existing planning, deputy chief executive officer Tracy Bury said. “Going online creates new opportunities such as widening our reach and being more inclusive”.

With the barriers for participation reduced the organising committee have reopened the call for abstracts, so people who may not have previously been able to be involved can join in. You now have until 24 September 2020 to submit an abstract.

Moving the congress online means participation can also increase for attendees, however World Physiotherapy is mindful of the digital divide. Not every place in the world has the same access, bandwidth or technology. Other challenges include finding ways to continue the great connectedness, community and sense family that the biennial global gatherings produce when physiotherapists from all over the world get together.

World Physiotherapy is busy revising its plans and registration fees will be available at the end of the year. But for now mark 8 -10 April 2021 in you digital calendar and save congress.physio/2021 to your browser favourites.
