Physiotherapy students are often so focused on passing their exams, and as new graduates improving their clinical skills, that career planning never occurs.  Not so for Stephanie Lock.  With a passion for outdoor pursuits and a primary career in photography (https://www.flickr.com/photos/sharmaz/) Stephanie knew from the beginning that working in a hospital or large generalist physiotherapy business wasn’t for her.

Now with a couple of years of clinical experience in Western Australia and the remote Northern Territory Stephanie has commenced her new business, aptly titled ‘Adventure Physio’. Her mission is to give people – especially women, people from disadvantaged backgrounds, people with disabilities and other vulnerable populations – the body confidence to live an adventurous life.

Whilst she does have a physical location for now, Stephanie’s plans include building online downloadable programs that can be purchased from anywhere in the world.  That way, she can be anywhere else in the world enjoying her own adventures.

Stephanie’s first online program is a Mountain Biking for Beginners course that covers everything from bike choice, gear, riding technique, staying safe, injury prevention and body maintenance, plus advice for people with disabilities.  Downloadable from her website, the asynchronous program does not require Stephanie to be present and it can be downloaded an infinite number of times, generating continuous passive revenue.  Subsequent programs will cover her other favourite pursuits of trail running, rock climbing and hiking.

With her specific niche and a growing online profile Stephanie also provides physiotherapy services to professional outdoor events, where she can mix with likeminded people.

As a photographer Stephanie has a strong sense of image composition and so powerful images on her website of people confidently enjoying the outdoors resonate strongly with her own passions.  The above-the-fold image of Stephanie’s website is of her looking out over the Kalbarri Gorge in the remote Gascoyne Region of Western Australia, appearing to be planning her strategy of adventure.

Stephanie first became aware of the .physio domain extension as a student when she quickly secured her personal brand www.stephanielock.physio. It followed that when she started her business that she would have a matching business name and website address: www.adventure.physio.  With the business name and website exactly matching Stephanie can enjoy the advantages of ‘branded navigation’ – her website address says who she is, what she does and where to go for more information.  All vital to helping the right clients find her and stay to explore all of her website’s information. And even more important when multiple Adventure Physio businesses exist.

From the beginning Stephanie has not been the average physiotherapist and her spirit of adventure is allowing her to build a business and a career that is as unique as she is.
