In a profession known for its intimacy, it takes ambition and courage to name your business Global Specialist Physiotherapy.  Australian Physiotherapist Kieran Richardson clearly has both and he is not afraid to use them. If you follow Kieran on social media you will know that he regularly tackles orthopaedic surgeons over their proclivity for ACL reconstructions, and Physiotherapists who denigrate manual therapy – two formidable opponents.

Not surprisingly then, when cheekily challenged on his hubristic use of the term ‘Global’, Kieran responded with the comment, “Intergalactic was taken”. – Touché.

In 2013 Kieran moved away from exclusively treating his own patients in private practice to fill a void he had identified of mentoring, professional development and second opinion work.  Particularly, Kieran offered assistance to newer practitioners, addressing their tendency to under service by providing education on developing ‘treatment plans’.

Treatment plans are a clear communication tool to patients to identify the work and time required to achieve the outcomes they are seeking.  In business terms they are equivalent to a ‘scope of work’ document and they provide a clear path forward.  Treatment plans are welcomed by both young and experienced practitioners to give them the confidence to bring clients back for ongoing care. And treatment plans are equally welcomed by practice principals as they bridge the gap between oft competing clinical and business interests.

It took just six months for Kieran’s new business to fill and it has grown to eight employees.  Initially driving to visit clinics around Perth, Kieran soon discovered, with the help of the Covid19 pandemic, the value of Zoom meetings and online training.  Recognising the power of the Internet to reach anywhere, Kieran soon began to provide his services, including patient consultations, around the world and thereby achieving his ‘global’ ambitions.

Kieran is a strong believer in, and advocate for, the Physiotherapy profession.  He has witnessed numerous low value medical (drugs and surgery) interventions that are overused and provide poorer outcomes.  Whereas exercise, education and movement are low cost, have rare side effects and produce long lasting outcomes.

As a user of new technology to provide his physiotherapy services it made sense for Kieran to update his website’s domain name from www.globalspecialistphysio.com to the shorter and punchier www.globalspecialist.physio.  And as an exact match to his business name, Kieran was able to add a dot to the text in his logo and thereby provide his website address on the visual device (above).

Every user of the .physio domain extension advocates for the profession whenever their website or email are used, not matter where in the world. Kieran has joined the thousands of Physiotherapist and Physical Therapists doing just the same.  The domain names can be registered at www.dot.physio
