Asia is fast becoming a technological powerhouse. Over the last decade, the region has accounted for 52% of global growth in tech-company revenues, 43% of startup funding, 51% of spending on research and development, and 87% of patents filed, according to research by the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI).

Physiotherapy in contrast, is growing much slower, often struggling to compete with Medicine – both Western and Traditional Chinese.

Physiotherapist Alphonse Tranne is doing his best to grow the profession in Asia.  Alphonse is of Vietnamese origin but was born and raised on the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.  At thirteen, his parents sent him to the care of an Aunt in Adelaide, Australia for his high school and university education. After graduating Alphonse worked in the South Australian outback, the United Kingdom and Germany before following his heart to Singapore, where he now resides – albeit not with the same girl.

The Covid19 pandemic caused Alphonse to consider his future and he decided private practice ownership in Singapore was an itch he needed to scratch. Foremost he needed a business name, logo and website.  Alphonse sought the advice of an experienced graphic designer who encouraged ‘A Plus Physio’.  It fitted beautifully with his name, his business goals and the need to rank highly on any alphabetic searches.  The graphic designer also recommended Alphonse use the domain name www.aplus.physio for its punchiness.

In Singapore where the country code domain extension is .sg, Alphonse finds he often has to explain that there is no .com or .sg at the end of his website and email addresses. Far from being an impediment, it provides him a powerful opportunity to demonstrate how “avant garde” he and the physiotherapy profession are.  Alphonse said, “Using the .physio domain extension is more specific, and it cleverly demonstrates the modernity of physiotherapy today, which helps raise awareness in a culture where Traditional Chinese Medicine is still a force”.

Despite strong competition with the local University graduating more students with Bachelor of Physiotherapy degrees Alphonse’s business is growing, with him just about to move to bigger premises and employ more staff.  Connections with local tech workers from Google, Facebook, Netflix and Amazon are helping Alphonse grow his business and with a ‘modern’ .physio domain extension he can demonstrate to his tech-savvy customers that he too is at the leading edge of technology.

With the help of a .physio domain name Alphonse Tranne is on his way to becoming an Asian physio powerhouse.
