Translating research into clinical practice is difficult. The ‘clean and neat’ laboratory protocols of research rarely exist in the reality of clinical practice and for clinicians this disconnect between research and practice is a cause of great frustration. Aspiring to be evidence based, they can spend hours dissecting journal articles for ways to implement the latest findings.

For Australian physiotherapists Mick Hughes and Randall Cooper the gap between research and clinical practice is where they excel. Mick and Randall began with the Melbourne ACL Rehab Guide – a synthesis of the latest ACL research evidence into an easy to understand protocol for rehabilitation that clinicians can use to guide their care.

Rehabilitation professionals responded with great enthusiasm to the Guide so Mick and Randall launched an online educational service at www.learn.physio. The two expert clinicians discuss and explore ways to incorporate the latest research into clinical practice. And often times they invite ‘presearchers’ (researchers who are also practitioners) in to explore the clinical implications of their research without the conference-style presentation restraints.

With the greater reach afforded to them via the Internet Mick and Randall’s educational videos are being viewed by clinicians around the world. Just recently the produced a new website to make it even easier to practice evidence based physiotherapy.

By signing up free of charge to be a member you will receive access to the journal club for fortnightly reviews of articles and be able to access the weekly webinar series. The courses are around 2 hours long and consist of four modules, an exam and a certificate of completion.

Whilst there are many providers of online physiotherapy education, Mick and Randall take the hard work out of implementing the latest evidence by doing it for you.
